(phone lines, including DSL) from all homes in an area comes to.
That’s a very rare sight, because these are part of national critical infrastructure, and only a few people get access to.
Then
these lead to server room(s) of data center(s); that’s not that rare,
seen them in movies and everywhere, but anyway, here’s how it looks for

All this electronics makes a lot of heat, and that’s what cools it down:
No, not the chair, it’s there just for sense of scale. That white thing is an air conditioning unit, one of four in this server room. But there’s no internet without big-time air conditioning ;)
